Details
South View Coarse Fishery consists of three spring fed lakes known as Willow, Kingfisher and Heron. Situated near Exeter within 6 acres of a peaceful Devon valley, the lakes have regularly produced rewarding catches since they were opened to day anglers up to 40 years ago. Surrounded by a variety of established trees and vegetation, creating a haven for many species of plants, birds and wildlife offering the angler a delightful place to relax and refresh.
Heron Lake
Heron Lake (bottom) was planned with the safety of younger and disabled anglers in mind, having flat banks, making it ideal for children and newcomers learning their sport.
Heron is our match lake providing excellent coarse and carp fishing with bags of a variety of species which include Perch, Roach, Rudd, Bream, Gudgeon and Carp.
Maggots, casters, worm, corn, meat, pellets and paste all work well. Whatever bait is chosen the golden rule is accurate feeding, use a pole pot or a catapult when waggler fishing. If small roach become problematic on maggot, a change to a larger bait such as corn will bring a better stamp of fish.
Floating baits such as bread and mixers can be used to target the Carp during the warmer months with the evenings being a favourite time to use this exciting method.
Kingfisher Lake
Kingfisher Lake (middle) this is our largest lake over an acre in size, with depths ranging from 2ft to 5ft.
A popular visitor to the lake is the kingfisher often heard and seen.
There are a good mix of Common, Mirror, Linear and Ghost carp. Also present are Roach, Rudd, Tench and Perch which average 1-3.5lb so offer a real treat to those targeting these species.
All techniques work here with the pole and waggler being most popular but do not neglect the feeder. Pole and waggler fishing between 9 and 11 metres is productive, the bed contours can easily be found with careful plumbing. Start by fishing the deeper part of the swim but be aware that the fish may come up in the water particularly where loose feed is being used. Do not neglect the margins, good numbers of fish can be caught close in, literally within a rod length of the bank.

In winter, good catches of roach can be taken on red maggot and pinkie with the odd bonus fish falling to corn.

Willow Lake
Willow Lake (top) is our oldest lake dating back to the middle of the last century.
It’s a spring fed lake with a natural island surrounded by a wide variety of established trees and vegetation.
The lake is stocked with carp to almost 30lb with a good population of Tench, Perch, Rudd and Roach.
Corn, meat, pellets and paste and boilies are all popular baits. Bread has proved effective both on or just below the surface or on the bottom. The whole lake fishes well in the summer with the island and dam being popular, the deeper water near the outlet is favoured in winter.
