Situated just south of York and set in 28 acres of landscaped countryside, Raker Lakes has 4 coarse lakes and a specimen lake, catering for match, pleasure and specimen anglers. There is also a small touring caravan site.
Horseshoe Lake
A 3 acre lake with 30 pegs boasting a maximum depth of 9 feet with widths between 16 and 20 metres stocked with carp from 6oz to double figures, Bream to 6lbs 8oz, Roach 2lbs 8oz, Rudd 2lbs, Crucians 2lbs, Specimen Perch to 3lbs 8oz, Skimmers, Dace, Chub and Tench make up a great venue for the matchman and pleasure angler. The current match record (May 2006) is 162 lbs 8oz with average match weights 45 to 80lbs.
Usual summer baits for carp include pellet, paste and meat, with floating bread and biscuit working well when the conditions are right. Caster fished down the middle takes good mixed bags. Pole fishing is the norm under the near side bushes, down the middle or across to the far bank, but waggler and bomb also work well.
Heron Pond
Heron Pond is only 1/2 an acre with 10 pegs but prolifically stocked with Carp, Roach, Rudd, Crucians and Perch. No matches are held on this pond so it is always available for pleasure anglers. Usual baits apply but the carp take especially well off the top.
Highbank Lake
This 2.5 acre lake was converted from trout to coarse in 2004 and has been stocked with carp to scraper twenties, crucians, tench, skimmers, roach, rudd and perch. The lake is rectangular shaped with pole, waggler and tip tactics working. Favoured baits are pellet, caster and chopped worm. Stocked with more silver fish than the other lakes, good mixed bags are available on this 22 peg lake.
Acorn Pond
A peaceful, tranquil setting with carp to 20lbs, crucians to 3lb 10oz, Roach, Rudd, Tench, Skimmers, Perch and Chub. Inside pole lines and 8-10 metres out are a good option for most species with pellet, paste, caster and meat the favourites. Bomb out into open water or across to the island also catches plenty of fish. Through the summer months floating baits work well. With 20 pegs this is a great pleasure pond or match lake for small clubs producing more 100lb weights than the other lakes. Current lake record 132 lb 10oz.
Kingfisher Lake
This 6.5 acre specimen carp lake was stocked with 220 Simmo fish in 2000. Approximately 70 of these are now between 20 and 30lbs, with four different fish having been caught over the 30lb mark. The lake record is 31lbs 8oz caught in May 2006 from peg 12, with the record common being 30lbs 8oz.
